TOKYO – EMERGING DESIGN AT MERCEDES BENZ FASHION WEEK TOKYO
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week TOKYO / MBFWT opened yesterday and will run until Sunday 19th showcasing Japanese designer’s latest creations to the world from various venues located in Tokyo with most shows taking place at Shibuya Hikarie and Mercedes me.
The event which is hosted by the Japan Fashion Week Organization and held twice a year on March and October, is running concurrently with Tokyo Kimono Week.
Today the runway at Shibuya Hikarie was host to emerging brand haha from the progressive designer Takafumi Tsuruta from Chiba. Takafumi was trained at the illustrious BUNKA Fashion College where he graduated in 2003, following which he began his professional career by joining the company of a famous fellow alumni of Bunka; HIROKO KOSHINO who presented the SS15 collection today at the elegant The Garden Hall venue.
Takafuma continued to grow his design experience and industry knowledge with the ODM children’s wear company, then as an instructor at Futuba Fashion Academy and finally in designing for JVC Kenwood before launching his own brand; haha, last year. The name “haha” means “mother” and “laughter” and “good fortune” says the designer.
Patchy Cake Eater is the fantastically-named brand of designer Shigeki Morino which is now in it’s second year.
The name apparently means a “Ladies’ man with patches”, delightful. Shigeki studied at an undisclosed specialised men’s fashion college where he trained in fine tailoring techniques that is a strong element of the brand’s ethos. He described his brand as creating “the masculinity that a woman wearing men’s clothes exudes” and applies this nuance to his menswear designs with classical and vintage elements that are recreated through modern aesthetics.
