Fashion designers interested in starting or furthering their studies should head to Shoreditch; one of London’s most artistic districts, this Wednesday for the open day at Istituto Marangoni. The world class fashion school with campuses in Milano, Paris and Shanghai has, since 2003, it’s London campus located in the aptly named Fashion Street, just off Brick Lane.
The Istituto Marangoni study programme in fashion design promotes a multidisciplinary approach to the subject: from design and modelling techniques to fashion and art history, from marketing and sociology to understanding new technologies: everything you need to know to become a great fashion designer.
The three-year course in fashion design is the heart and soul of the school and every year it prepares a new generation of designers who are then presented to the fashion world with a big media event: the fashion show; for the occasion, the most deserving students are given the chance to produce and present their own creations to industry professionals, facilitating their entry into the world of work.
To give you an idea of the broad range of their course themes, a student of the Undergraduate Fashion Design course can expect to study themes such as Architecture Design, Fabric Exploration and Design, Portfolio & Collection Creation, History of Art and Dress, Brand Revival, Art & Fashion Interface, Fashion and Culture Contemporary Perspectives, as well as all aspects of Collection design and portfolio preparation for Industry standards.
If you are looking to expand your Fashion Business knowledge the school also have a Business course that will educate you in understanding sales and marketing methods, how to control costs, define communication and promotion techniques, coordinating staff and consultants and undertaking a highly profitable and satisfying career either in a fashion company or in your own business.
During the course you can expect to study topics such as: Semiotics of Clothing, Object and Environment, Identity, History of Art and Dress, Fashion Writing and Criticism, Fashion Editorial, Magazine Design, Fashion and Culture Contemporary Perspectives
For designers who prefer a short introductory course the following are available and are three weeks duration.
Basics Of Fashion Design, Basics Of Fashion Image & Styling, Basics Of Fashion Business, Fashion Advertising, Fashion Visual Merchandising.
In 2013 the careers service at Istituto Marangoni arranged over 500 internships and placements in some of the world’s most famous fashion houses including Gucci, Burberry, Vivienne Westwood, Ted Baker and Kurt Geiger.
