HRD Antwerp is launching the 16th edition of its biennial international diamond jewellery design competition with the chance for a jewellery designer to win the prestigious award and gain global recognition.
Founded in Antwerp in 1976, the HRD Antwerp Diamond Lab is one of the world’s largest and most respected diamond grading today, with its certificates accepted internationally as documented assurances of a diamond’s quality and authenticity. As the most prominent laboratory to adhere to the grading standards set by the International Diamond Council (IDC), an authoritative body created more than 30 years ago by the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) and the International Diamond Manufacturing Association (IDMA), the Diamond Lab was the first industry laboratory to be officially accredited by the International Standards Organization (ISO/IEC 17025).

The HRD Awards are internationally recognised as one of the world’s most important jewellery design competitions today. Its goal is to inspire and promote creativity in the design of contemporary diamond jewellery and avant-garde ideas. The artist is given free rein and exclusive couture creations are a must.
In the framework of World Expo Milano 2015, which will run from May 1 to October 31, 2015, HRD Antwerp will organize the HRD Awards, with
“A LA CARTE | A Culinary Journey”, a theme that fits in with the overall World Expo theme ”Food”. Designers are invited to delve into their own culinary heritage for inspiration.

Food and culture: our relationship with food is a complex one, from biological to cultural, from nutritional to symbolic. Our cultural identity depends on food. What one eats defines who we are.
Your challenge: exploring earth’s inexhaustible wealth of flavours and tastes, to cook an exquisite dish and translate your mouth watering recipe into a unique diamond jewellery piece, that tastes for more.
Your inspiration: your favourite dish, smell, taste, your grandmothers kitchen secrets, odours that bring you back in time, the past recaptured seasoned with local ingredients….

The winning collection will be translated into a commercial line. A unique partnership between HRD Antwerp, jewellery manufacturer and designer and will be exhibited and promoted during 2015 and 2016 in Belgium and abroad, with an opening exhibition to take place on May 1 until October 31 2015 in the Belgian Pavilion at the World Expo in Milan, Italy.
