The 3rd annual BT Emerging Fashion Designer Award 2015 is open for entries from emerging Australian fashion designers seeking to launch their fashion design careers.
This is a major award known for launching the careers of emerging fashion talents and providing the chance to win financial support, advice and mentoring with a total prize valued at over $40,000.
The prize includes:
$10,000 cash proze provided by BT,
The services of a financial planner for one year as well as two return business class flights to Los Angeles fashion week, provided by Virgin Australia, backstage hair services for one major fashion event by Toni+Guy and two mentoring sessions with two fashion industry icons. It’s enough to certainly raise an aspiring fashion business to the next level.
The award will be judged by a panel of fashion industry professionals
The top three applicants will participate in the BT Runway for Success event along with other notable Australian designers including Scanlan Theodore, Carla Zampatti and Camilla & Marc.
Following the show, the 2015 Emerging Fashion Designer Award will be announced.
The closing date for entries is the 11th of January 2015.

Last year’s winner was designer Michael Lo Sordo who says of the award :
“The financial help and assistance and contacts that I made – I can’t sing their praises highly enough. The BT Group has changed my life.”
Speaking about winning this prize Michael says that, like a lot of young designers, he didn’t have a prepared business plan.
“I’m a creative, a designer and I haven’t had experience of implementing strategies and putting them into place. I started designing as a hobby and it turned into a business.”
Prior to designing Michael worked as a chef, then as a stylist for SBS and a visual merchandising manager for Giorgio Armani.
Running a successful design business is hard; “What we do is so seven days a week, with long days, and the task at hand is most important,” he says.
Last year the business was at a crossroads. Today it is not just a business but a profitable business selling to a number of large international markets including the US and UK with Net-a-Porter, Harvey Nichols and Avenue 32.
“The growth has been happening really fast. It’s important to have strategies in place to support that growth. I capped our sales – as I didn’t want to produce too much stock. you have to be strategic,”.
